School Library Journal Review
Gr 3-6-This weather-wise series teaches not only what's forecast but how. Books cover the whys of extreme weather (thunderstorms, floods, mudslides, etc.) and explain concepts such as the water cycle or the earth's atmosphere. The simple layout, large font, and ample spacing make for an uninterrupted reading experience. Large, clear, sometimes awe-inspiring, color photographs appear on most pages. Each entry also features a primary source list; unfortunately, it includes only photograph notes rather than information sources. Chasing Extreme Weather and Clouds and Precipitation serve as nice companions to Lauren Tarshis's "I Survived" books. The emphasis on personal safety and global warming's connection to the rise in extreme weather keeps the material relevant. VERDICT Additional purchases as needed, but pay special attention to the high-interest natural disaster titles. © Copyright 2018. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
